The problem is not your writing.
​But the problem shows up in your writing. 


​The reason why even heart-centered marketing can be dis-heartening is because the way in which it is taught fails to support us through the actual process of learning and application of the principles and techniques into a new skill. In other words, they drop the ball.
 
Most courses and books focus on telling you the ‘how to’, along with some general concepts and perhaps guiding you through a series of questions to ask yourself. But learning a skill is not just about being told ‘how to’ or getting a hazy idea about how the principles might apply for your business.
 
True learning is gained through experimenting, receiving feedback, then refining and trying again. True learning is an iterative process.

​This approach to writing and communications works because it includes the three vital elements to finding clarity and ease in your messaging and marketing.

A trusted guide is key to learning new skills

Without a guide we stumble around and can even go in the wrong direction. While we can get where we want to go eventually, it takes quite a while.

​Receiving feedback and mentoring from a trusted guide is key to finding ease with the application of new skills.

​Being accompaniment through the learning process by a trusted companion who knows what questions to ask to elicit both your personal understanding and alignment with your heart changes everything.  Individualized instruction can help to make sense of over simplified or over complex and often contradictory teachings while taking into account your unique learning style and pace.

Mastery is gained when we understand intention

While step by step instructions are adequate for making a muffin, they just don’t suffice for marketing, especially in this content saturated world.

​Diving beneath rote steps and strategies to the intention behind them melts away confusion and overwhelm and fosters true understanding. Then from understanding arises the mastery needed to apply the skills to the unique and continually evolving circumstances of your business.

Ease flows from Alignment

Most of the doubt and exhaustion in writing comes from not yet finding alignment. Just like the uncomfortable experience of a tire out of alignment. There is a wobbly misalignment between a technique and your heart or the heart of your ideal client.

When your messaging lacks authentic resonance the kind of people you really want to work with can feel it. But finding alignment is hard and scary and stymies most of us at some point.

We have been taught to be blind to or discount our authentic heart. And the way our human brains work simply makes it difficult to completely stand in the client’s shoes.

​But when the alignment happens, everything changes. Your marketing and messaging starts to flow with ease and even kindles a sense of fulfilment in your work.

A few more beliefs are blended in to really make this work:

There is no right way to do this
The key to effective messaging is to find the frequency of your unique heart and allow your messaging to resonate that vibration out. While there are principles underlying messaging, sales and marketing, how they are expressed is all about your authentic self.
Your marketing can heal
The way you interact with prospective clients through your messaging and communications is the starting point of the healing process of working with you. When they feel seen, witnessed in their struggles, and fully accepted without judgment they can start to put down the burden they have been carrying and begin to relax, trust, and heal. 
Truly standing in your client’s shoes is humbling and hard
Writing your marketing as if you are talking to a client avatar is relatively easy, but potential clients can feel when they are being talked at versus really being seen. The hard work of authentic communications is to get up from behind the desk, walk around to the other side, and sit beside the potential client. Not to solve their problems with your modality, but to live in their reality through borrowing their shoes. This 180 degree change of perspective is disorienting. It takes effort and humility. It is not for the faint of heart. Yet it is required for your prospective clients to really feel they can trust you and can invest in a relationship with you and your work. Once you really get this reorientation, your messaging becomes so much easier and far more effective. 
Marketing is a conversation, and relationships take time
Business communications are a one-to-one private conversation you are having with someone who needs your help and is just on the other side of the screen. Trust, safety and connection are the foundation of relationships and they take time to develop. Therefore marketing and sales are a slow and gentle progression. 
Owning this skill is bedrock
Becoming proficient with messaging and the principles that underly it can be the lifeblood of your business. In a world where we increasingly interact digitally and engage with artificial intelligences the businesses that stand out are the ones whose messaging resonates with authenticity and humanity. 
Gaslighting is only for the stage
Authentic marketing and communications are free from hype and manipulation. Ethical marketing respects the autonomy, dignity, agency, and integrity of the individual.
